The Spellman Museum has a separate gallery and meeting space which houses temporary or rotating exhibits in display cases. These cases offer the museum a chance to display additional artifacts outside of the main gallery and explore topics in more depth than the permanent exhibits. This room also hosts special traveling exhibits, often rented or borrowed, that run a range of interesting topics.

We have added Blackburn and Clarkson family household items, china, and a china cabinet. Juanita Blackburn and Ringtom Clarkson (both daughters of Bud and Rhoda Dykes Bowles) were descendants of an old Forney (actually pre-Forney) family and both grew up to have long teaching careers. Blackburn Elementary is named for Juanita.
Forney Women
In the July 29, 1962 edition of the Dallas Morning News, an article titled “Doctor, Editor, Banker, Merchant – All Women” discussed how several prominent positions within the small town of Forney were held by women.
Using this as inspiration, our current exhibit pulls artifacts and photos about some of the women mentioned in the article, while also expanding the scope to include more Forney women from past and present.
